What does "online counseling" mean?
Online counseling is just that... counseling that is conducted online in real-time via a secure, HIPAA-compliant, videoconferencing platform. There are many different references to this method of therapy: video counseling, distance counseling, telemental health, teletherapy, etherapy, telemedicine, "Skype" or "face time" counseling, and more.
Requirements to participate in online counseling
In order to engage in online counseling, the client must, at minimum,...
Consent to additional terms around online counseling, including agreeing to hold online counseling sessions in a confidential and distraction-free environment;
Have access to a digital device with reliable video/microphone and internet access;
Be located in the state of Florida at the time of the online counseling session; and
Meet criteria for a low risk of harm to self or others.
Rates and insurance coverage
Session rates are the same as in-person rates, as it is the same quality of counseling, only the delivery is different. Rebecca Stone, LMHC is currently an in-network provider with Aetna, Cigna, Lyra Health, and Magellan Behavioral Health. Many insurance plans cover online counseling. Please call your insurance company before your first online counseling session to ensure your plan covers online counseling.
Aside from the additional policies outlined in the Online Counseling Consent Form, the same policies that are in place for in-person counseling also apply for online counseling.
